※ What is Kutabe?
Legend has it that a sacred beast, Kutabe, appeared in front of an herb gatherer in the Edo period. It foretold the spread of an epidemic and proclaimed, “The sight of me will protect you from plague. For those who cannot come to see me, draw my image and show it to them.”
